New Kia Optima: A stylish, high-performance sedan
- by admin
Kia has announced the Optima, its first crossover car that uses the same engine and chassis as the popular Optima sedan.
The Optima is a sedan that will feature a range of performance options, including a 3.0-liter V6 with a 607-hp peak and an estimated torque of 320 lb-ft. (318 Nm), along with an all-wheel drive system, along with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a new “optimal sleeping temperature” setting that reduces the vehicle’s ambient temperature to between 35 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit (0 and 0.5 Celsius) to minimize the risk of heat stroke.
The new Optima will come in two versions, the Optimal and Optima Plus.
The original Optima was introduced in 2013, and it sold 3.4 million units.
It was also the first car to feature a front-mounted engine, but it wasn’t until the Optimus that the new Optimas were made available.
The Optima now comes with a 5.7-liter engine, as well as a 7-speed automatic transmission, but the Optima Plus adds a 6.3-liter turbocharged V6, and the Optimes powertrain has been improved with a new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The KiaOptima is powered by a 3-liter, all-aluminum V6 engine.
The 3.3 liter engine is paired with a 713-hp, five-speed manual transmission, which also makes the Optime Plus.
All of the Optimum’s powertrain options are the same as the Optimo: an allroad suspension, aluminum wheels, aluminum frame, aluminum bodywork, carbon fiber wheels, and LED taillights.
The design of the new Kia optima is reminiscent of the Kia’s other luxury sedan, the Kiaspeed, which was introduced nearly a decade ago.
The Kia was introduced as a mid-size crossover, with the Opti as the top-of-the-line model.
The first Optima sold out quickly, and Kia didn’t have room for the Optias new lineup of premium-level performance options.
Now, the automaker is offering a larger lineup of performance cars.
The first Optimo comes in at an MSRP of $68,900, while the Optimates range is set at $90,900.
The two Optimims are also available in a more expensive Premium Package with a starting price of $95,900 for the Sport Package and $120,900 in the Premium Package.
Kia says the Optimi Plus will go on sale in mid-September, and will start at $97,400.
While Kia hasn’t announced pricing yet, the new cars are expected to begin rolling off the assembly lines in the first quarter of 2018.
Kiasport, Kia and Optimae are all set to unveil the cars at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, but that’s not the only car that Kia is expected to reveal.
In January, the company will unveil a new sports sedan that features the same Optima nameplate, along as the same chassis and engine, and could even be the same nameplate.
